Future Authors Workshop
Good storytelling is an art form. Explore the different methods and strategies employed by top fiction writers.
“To write means more than putting pretty words on a page; the act of writing is to share a part of your soul with the world.” — Anonymous
Students will begin the week by learning how to read like writers, and then they will use a variety of readings as models for their own writing. They will learn to "show, not tell" and stock their writer's toolbox with techniques including indirect characterization, dialogue and tone. Every student will compose several writing exercises a day, and on the last day of class, each student will present a favorite piece in a live reading, which family members and friends are encouraged to attend. Hopefully, after this workshop, students will enjoy writing more and be able to see possibly story ideas in their everyday lives. Each day will consist of students/teacher interaction followed by online digital activities culminating at the end of the week with videos with original content you and your family can enjoy.
*Differentiated curriculum will be given out to students interested in taking multiple sessions.
